Song Mapper

Oct 19, 2026 min read

A small tool for mapping out the structure of a song while listening to it. Tap along on every bar, mark where the sections change and where the fills are, and it builds a map of the song with the bar count of each section.

Open the Song Mapper

What it does

  • Counts bars as you tap Space (or the Bar pad on a phone), and works out the tempo from your taps. You can also tap on every beat instead.
  • Enter marks a section change, F marks a fill, Backspace undoes the last tap.
  • Name each section and add notes. It writes out the form of the song, like “8 intro, 16 verse, 8 chorus.”
  • Paste a YouTube link to play the song in the page, with a one-bar count-in at the song’s tempo.
  • Save songs in your browser, copy the map as text, or save it as a PDF.
